E.W. "Bob" Blythe Jr

E.W. “Bob” Blythe, Jr., age 84, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 7:44 AM, Friday, May 12, 2017, at his home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Bob was born in 1932 in Louisville, KY close to Bowman Field and attended Flaget Catholic High School through 10th grade. Throughout his high school years, he played basketball and boxed. He even had the chance to spar with Cassius Clay known now as Muhammad Ali. Bob left school at 17 years old and with his mom’s permission joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea and was at the famous battle the Chosin Reservoir and was with Major General Chester Puller, who later became the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Bob moved back to Louisville and became a postal carrier. He met the love of his life Mary Alice Ellis on a blind date. They married in 1959 and moved to Henderson shortly after. He worked for Atlas Tack, then Eaton Corporation in shipping and receiving, he retired at age 62. Bob was always active and loved to fish, bowl, build model airplanes, clocks, and many other “crafty” projects, which he often gave away as gifts. He was a longtime member at First Christian Church. He was a very loving and generous man. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Erdman and Elnora D. Blythe, his wife, Mary Alice Blythe and his sister Sara Lawson. Survivors include: 2 Daughters: Beth Gish and her husband Ed of Corydon, KY Bonnie Buchanan and her husband Dennis of Henderson, KY 1 Son: Robert E. “Bob” Blythe and his wife Betty of Nashville, TN 7 Grandchildren 32 Great Grandchildren 7 Great Great Grandchildren Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Bob’s Life Celebration from 4:00-8:00 PM Monday and again on Tuesday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the funeral home with Dr. Chuck Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Full Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
