Doris Edward Wilson

Doris Edward Wilson peacefully passed on Monday, November 27th, 2023, with family by his side at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of Saint Anthony’s Hospice. He was born October 23rd, 1926, to Nola Mae and Hartzel Wilson in Cairo, Kentucky. Doris was raised on a farm that became his lifelong passion for the outdoors. He planted tobacco as a teenager until he was 19 years of age and graduated from Weaverton High School in 1945. He moved out of his parent’s home to marry Barbara Leasor Wilson of Henderson, Kentucky on May 27th, 1950, and they were together for 65 years. Doris had an admirable work ethic. He worked at Shannon Lumber Company for many years followed by Henderson Implement where he retired at 65 after having been there for 44 years. Along the way he became friends with many farmers & their families. Six months into retirement he was stopping by the newly established Rural King where he was approached to put in an application and hired. He worked there for 19 years, finally retiring at the age of 83. Doris had a wonderful bond with his English Labrador, Rudy and more recently his Goldendoodle, Mya. Another passion was sports, and his love of the University of Kentucky Wildcats was a topic of conversation with many, even in his last days. Doris is survived by one daughter, Doria Jean Wilson of Henderson; one son David E. Wilson and his wife Pamala, of Henderson; three grandchildren, Scott Wilson and his wife Rhonda, of Henderson, Stacie Lee and her husband John, of Bowling Green, and Seth Wilson and his wife Erin of Lebanon, Tennessee; four great-grandchildren Annabelle and Gareth Wilson, and Jackson and Karson Lee; sister-in-law Mildred Leasor Stribling, of Henderson, brother-in-law Everett Leasor and his wife Mary of Bowling Green; nieces, nephews, & cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to Doris’ Life Celebration from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Monday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the funeral home with Revered Jody Hughes and Marty White officiating. Burial will follow in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Pallbearers will be Scott Wilson, Seth Wilson, Chuck Stribling, Mike Patton, John Lee, and Brad Brown.
