Ruth Eblen

Ruth Eblen, age 80, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Evansville, IN. Ruth was born on April 26, 1943, and raised on the family farm in Hebbardsville, KY where she and her sisters had joyous family gatherings, endless outdoor adventures and loved riding their horse Tex. She was a Henderson County High School graduate and then continued her education at Western Kentucky University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. Ruth was a teacher for more than 27 years, working predominantly as a middle school teacher throughout her career. Ruth genuinely cared about her student’s education and was well regarded by everyone. She and her husband Rufus loved to travel, especially internationally. She was an avid reader, excellent cook and loved to share stories from their travels around the world. Ruth enjoyed spending her time in nature, gardening, and birdwatching. She stayed in contact with her colleagues and friends and spent hours on the phone staying up to date. Ruth was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church for many years. She was a kind and compassionate woman who always made you feel special and had a heart of gold. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents William and Erin Haynes, husband Rufus D. Eblen, Jr. and her sister Karen Denton. Ruth is survived by her son Paul Eblen of Henderson, KY; sister Anita Dawson and her husband Mark of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren: Ava, Hadley, and Sadie Eblen; brother-in-law Bill Denton of Henderson, KY; nephews: Brian Denton, Kurt Denton, Matt Dawson, and Scott Dawson. Relatives and friends are invited to Ruth’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Brother Joe Cox officiating. Burial will follow at the Eblen Family Cemetery on Pruitt-Agnew Road.
