Maurice B Arnett

Maurice B. Arnett, age 88 of Henderson, KY passed away at 2:07 AM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center. Maurice was born in 1925 in Henderson, KY to Russell Bertyn and Christine Arnett. He was still living in the same house he was born in when he passed away. He is the oldest of 6 children. Maurices’s father was a farmer in Cairo and his mother was a homemaker and musician, she even wrote music. Maurice graduated from Weaverton High School in 1943. After graduation he started working for JC Penny and became manager of the men’s department until 1957. He met the love of his life Martha Groves while working at JC Penny. They dated about a year and married in October 1952. He always called her “His Sweetie”. In 1957 he attained his real estate license and went to work for Melton and Springer and retired after 50 years from the real estate profession. Maurice also worked for Frank G. Schmidt grocery wholesaler from 1969 until 2003. Maurice was a Christian and a member of First Methodist Church where he was a 50 year member of the choir. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, Cardinal baseball fan and UK fan. His favorite hobby was woodworking. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister: Bessie Ellis and a brother: Joseph Arnett. Survivors include: Wife of 61 years: Helen Arnett of Henderson, KY 2 Daughters: Cheri Russell and husband David of Providencce, KY Robin Arnett of Henderson, KY 2 Sons: Stephen Arnett and wife Dianne of Morganfield, KY Bud Arnett of Henderson, KY 3 Sisters: Frances Kyle of Owensboro, KY Marie Powell of Henderson, KY Beryl Thompson of Cairo, KY 7 Grandchildren: Carrie Harmon, Eric Critser, Matthew Arnett, DeAnn Sneed, Kyle Arnett, Jacob Bartley and Marissa Arnett 10 Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Maurice’s Life Celebration from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, February 21, 2014 and again on Saturday starting at 10:00 AM at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Jim Wofford officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
