Mary Elizabeth Frields

Mary Elizabeth Frields, age 87 of Henderson, KY, passed away at 6:57 PM, Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Redbanks Nursing Home. Mary was born September 17, 1927 to Wayne and Mary Catherine Adams. She grew up on the family farms in Henderson and Webster counties. She worked the farms even while attending college. She graduated from Henderson County High School in 1945. Mary then meet the love of her life, Charles Thomas “Tommy” Frields, after he had returned home from fighting for the US Army in Europe during World War ll. They adopted a son, Lawrence in 1952. They bought a 16 acre farm on Green River Road, sold it and continued buying bigger ones. She then returned to school at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY. She received her bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in English. Mary started her teaching career in various schools in the Henderson County School District. After about 17 years she retired, but stayed busy working with special needs children. Mary was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church then Rangers Landing Baptist Church, where she played piano and was a Sunday school teacher. After moving to town she moved her membership to Airline Baptist Church where she remained active. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Thomas Frields, infant twins: Sammy and Danny Frields. Survivors include: 1 Son: Larry Frields Robards, KY 4 Grandchildren: Lawrence Frields and wife Amy Jacksonville, FL Jennifer Lynch and husband Chris Jacksonville, FL Melissa Frields Bradenton, FL James T. Frields Robards. KY 8 Great Grandchildren Relatives and friends are invited to Mary Frields Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2015 and again on Saturday, January 31 starting at 9:00 AM at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Nathan Whisnant officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery, Poole, KY.
