Lela R. McLevain Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lela R. McLevain passed away on June 15, 2022, at 9:05 a.m. surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Broughton, Illinois in 1932 to George and Grace Scott. As a girl growing up, Lela was a cheerleader and sang in a gospel quartet on the radio. She was a very opinionated person and didn’t mind expressing herself. This led to her well-earned and lovingly given nickname “Sassy”. Lela loved UK Basketball, tennis, and baseball. She also enjoyed dancing. Her love of music never waned; it brought great solace listening to gospel, Elvis, The Gaither Vocal Band, and her sisters singing. After more than 25 years at Cyneade Plastics Lela retired, and her greatest hobby became talking on the phone to family and friends. In addition to her parents, Lela is preceded in death by her husband Freeman “Tickle” McLevain, daughter Jana McLevain, a brother, and 5 sisters. Lela is survived by daughter Joni Williams (Steve) of Basket, KY; sons Jay McLevain and Jamey McLevain of Henderson, KY; brother Robert “Bob” Scott of McLeansboro, IL; grandchildren: Joshua Williams (Stacey), Justin Williams (Mandy), Jennifer Lankins, Jaemi McLevain, John Williams (Amber); 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to Lela’s Life Celebration from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17th, and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18th, at the funeral home with Reverend John Brumfiel officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
