John M. Tompkins Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John M. Tompkins, age 74, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 8:40 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. After retiring from Atlantis Plastics, John worked in the Henderson County school system as a substitute custodian. He enjoyed his retirement job very much because he really loved people. He enjoyed the staff he worked alongside and the teachers he got to know. John was an enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fan and an avid grill master. He was also a UK Wildcat fan. He was a skilled dart thrower and spent much of his time in his man-cave (garage) entertaining family and friends. Summer was his favorite time for smoking a Boston butt, playing corn hole, goading friends about sports, and loving on his family. He was filled with love and loyalty for all his favorite activities and loved ones. John was a member of Henderson’s First Baptist Church and loved the Lord. In addition to his parents, Martin and Anna Mae Tompkins, John was preceded in death by his wife Sandy G. Tompkins, sisters Juanita Yourn and Brenda Speith, and brothers Jim Tompkins and Sonny Tompkins. John is survived by his daughter Tracy Johnson and her daughter Madeleine of Henderson, KY; son Devin E. Tompkins, his wife Charlotte, and their children: Chelsea, Christopher, and Haley of Madisonville, KY; son Clayton W. Dotson, his son Caden, Clayton’s fiancé Kristina, and her children: Brayden, Kali, and Payton of Henderson, KY; sister Roseanna Stone of Henderson, KY; sisters-in-law: Cindy Kinkade (Terry), Marilyn Williams (Mike), Janet Swearingen (Bob), and Angela Rhea (Jeff); brother-in law Mike Kortz of Henderson, KY; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday and again on Monday starting at 9:00 a.m. at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2021, at the funeral home with Pastor Sam Hinkston officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
