Gary Lynn Givens

Gary Lynn Givens, age 67, of Corydon, KY, passed away at 7:15 AM, Monday, February 27, 2017 at his home. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mary Elizabeth Givens, 1 son, Bert Givens and 2 sisters, Gloria Willett and June Carter. Gary retired from Alcan Aluminum in 2003 after working for 37 years. He was a crane operator and had worked the pot lines at the Sebree Smelter. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and actively served in Vietnam for 13 months. He was wounded twice but refused to come home. He proudly served his country and was part of the era of the forgotten Vietnam heroes. Gary was a kind, loving, but stubborn man. He loved fried potatoes and pork chops for dinner. He enjoyed spending time at home. He owned chickens, ducks, pigs and bought his granddaughter a goat when she was 5 years old.His grandson Alex, always enjoyed helping him clean the chicken coop out. His granddaughter Candace will always remember the beautiful day they spent together when she told him “It’s a great day for butterflies, papaw.” Gary loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to the older original country music artist such as, George Jones and Merle Haggard. His hobbies included coon hunting with his sons and friends. He owned a “Bench Show” coon dog and traveled the tristate area entering her in dog shows. He was an avid deer hunter. Survivors include: Wife of 47 years: Elizabeth “Liz” Givens of Corydon, KY 3 Sons: R.B. Givens of Corydon, KY Wade Givens and his wife Amanda of Henderson, KY Tony Givens of Corydon, KY 1 Sisters: Kathy Hargrove of Manitou, KY 4 Grandchildren: Dustin Givens, Kylie Givens, Alex Givens, Candace Givens 1 Great Grandson: Elijah Givens Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Gary’s Life Celebration from 4:00- 8:00 PM Friday, March 3, 2017 and again on Saturday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the funeral home with Reverend Keith Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, KY.
