Eldean Whitledge

Eldean V. Whitledge, age 93, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 5:02 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice surrounded by the love of her family. Eldean was a long-time active member of Henderson General Baptist Church. Many know her from her years of hospitality at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Homes that spanned six decades. Her work ethic was unmatched. When she wasn’t greeting families at the funeral home, Eldean enjoyed maintaining her immaculate yard. It was not uncommon to drive by her home and see her edging her driveway with scissors or cleaning her gutters on a stepladder at 87 years young. Eldean also canned fresh vegetables and green beans. Eldean was a caregiver at heart; be it her career, her meticulous lawn, or countless hours at her husband’s side in his final years, she cared well for the things and people that mattered most to her. In addition to her parents Rudy and Lois Vanover, Eldean was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Buddy Whitledge; sisters: Mary Webster, Janie West, Vinnie Phillips, and Rosie May Lambdin; brothers: Robert Vanover, Donald Vanover, Charles Vanover, and Sonny Vanover; and grandson Fredrick Allen Whitledge. Eldean is survived by her daughter Dana Duncan and husband John of Morganfield, KY; sons Tony Whitledge and wife Gail of Henderson, KY and Mike Whitledge and wife Rose Marie of Henderson, KY; sisters Frances Irene Rone of Smith Mills, KY and Margaret Williams of Henderson, KY; grandchildren: Jarrod Whitledge and wife Shannon, Jeremy Whitledge, Jason Whitledge, Joseph Whitledge, Aron Pruitt, Logan Pruitt, and Chris Pruitt; great-grandchildren: Madeline, Sarah, Ryan, Trace, Annabell, Ella, Marissa, Kara, Maddox, Gunner, Kohlt, Katelyn, Lily, and Sophia. Relatives and friends are invited to Eldean’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at Henderson General Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the church with Reverend Dan Book and Reverend Chad Hensley officiating.
