Charles "Buddy" Meyer

March 8, 1934 - February 8, 2022

Charles “Buddy” Meyer, age 87, of Smith Mills, KY, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2022 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. Buddy was a Veteran of the United Navy. He was a custodial supervisor for the Henderson County Board of Education for many years. Buddy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and he was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an emergency first responder with the Smith Mills Volunteer Fire Department where he was chief for 43 years. Buddy loved the Lord and was an active longtime member of Belleview United Methodist Church in Smith Mills. In addition to his parents Claude and Ida “Ita” Meyer, Buddy was preceded in death by his 2 sons Michael Claude Meyer and James Mitchell Meyer, as well as his 2 sisters Greta Wilson and Claudette Hope. Buddy is survived by his wife of 68 years Bettye Wheeler Meyer of Smith Mills, KY; daughter-in-law Janet Culver of Smith Mills, KY; 2 grandchildren Chelsea Meyer of Smith Mills, KY and Zachary C. Meyer of Henderson, KY; 1 great-granddaughter Nora Meyer; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Buddy’s Life Celebration from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home and again on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at Belleview United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the church with Reverend Steve Hale, Reverend Ray Buckman, and Reverend Donald House officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Mills Cemetery in Smith Mills, KY.
