Brenda Kay Pitt Brenda Kay Pitt, age 53 of Henderson, KY passed away at. 6:25 AM Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her home after a long courageous battle with ALS. . Brenda was born in Henderson, KY and grew up on N. Elm St. She attended Henderson City High which later merged with Henderson County High where she graduated in 1978. She worked at Barry’s Pharmacy for many years and later worked for Dunaway’s Pharmacy before continuing her education.She received her Bachelor’s degree as RN from Murray State University. Brenda then worked in the ER at Methodist Hospital, as a traveling nurse, Tri-State Arthritis and Rheumatology and at Redbanks Nursing Home. She loved her job as a registered nurse, but not anymore than her patients loved her. Brenda was a member of First Baptist Church. She married her husband Dan in 1987 and they had 3 wonderful sons. She followed her sons to all their sporting events packing her lawn chair and wearing her sun visor. Her sons were the focus of her life. Brenda loved all types of music and she loved playing piano. She had several hobbies but her favorite was collecting thimbles. Brenda was involved with the ALS Association and raised over $18,000. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Kathleen Dixon, and a brother, Owen Dixon. Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Dan Pitt of Henderson, KY, 3 sons, Evan, Avery and Ian Pitt all of Henderson, KY, 1 sister, Robin Zimmerman and husband Pat of Henderson, KY and 1 brother, David Dixon and wife Kitty of Evansville, IN. Relatives and friends are invited to Brenda’s Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00 PM Sunday, October 13, 2013 and again on Monday starting at 9:00 AM at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Alan Chamness officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions toward research of Lou Gehrig’s Disease at ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Washington, DC. 20005.
