Vena Francis Davis

Vena Davis, of Henderson, KY, passed away at her home, Sunday, May 18, 2014, she was 103. She was born in Muhlenberg County, KY, to Thomas Henry Moore and Nancy Carrie Woodard. She moved from her family home at an early age wanting to work to purchase her own home. During WWII she worked at Servel building aircraft for the war. After the war she moved to Henderson where she purchased her home and several acres of land on Madison Street. She met and married Aaron F. Davis in 1947. She became a Mother in 1948 and decided to stay at home and raise her two children. God blessed her with many talents and a brain that never stopped planning. She was smart, inquisitive, optimistic and self-reliant. She was never bored because she saw things that needed attention and took on the task. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening and could always be found in the yard working. This is how we will remember her. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all their animals and critters. Her greatest joy was being with her family. She enjoyed traveling and would often visit her daughter, Linda in the state that she was in at the time. She was a wonderful, kind, loving Mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She will be loved and missed dearly. She loved the Lord and was an active member of Hyland Baptist Church and then Airline Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron, four brothers, Marvin, Emmitt, Arthur, and Clifton as well as four sisters, Ruth, Maggie, Louise, and Margaret,. She is survived by her son, Aaron Michael of Henderson, her daughter, Linda Davis Mackey (Ron) , three grandchildren, Greg (Dr. Deborah Mackey), Brian (Allison), April Mackey Iliff (Jeff) and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Reanna, Garrett, Cooper and Davis, all of Colorado, except for April and Jeff, who are in Seoul, Korea at present. She has two surviving sisters, Lorrine, Dorothy and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Vena’s Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00 PM Thursday and again on Friday starting at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Whisnant officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
