Sanford Lee Watkins

Sanford Lee Watkins, age 87, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 10:49 PM, Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Sanford was a US Army Veteran retiring after 21 ½ years of service. He served our country proudly in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and several commendation medals. Sanford was a past member of the American Legion. He worked for Continental Industrial Sales for many years in California. He attended Beals Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed visiting and talking to people. He took fruit and vegetables from his garden to share with others. He loved traveling and drove many miles to visit family and friends and he made many more along the way. He loved to give more than he received and was a special man that loved everyone. Sanford had many friends but his best friend was Terry Mayes, together they shared a special bond. Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Flossie Watkins, 1 son, Sandy Watkins, 1 step-daughter, Susie Eshbaugh, 1 step-son, David Lacer, a wife, Barbara Hoffner and 3 brothers, Thomas, Milburn and Leo Watkins. Survivors include: Wife of 27 years: Sharon Watkins of Henderson, KY 2 Sons: Harlan Watkins and his wife Jane Ruben Watkins and his wife Saundra both of California Son-in-Law: Todd Eshbaugh of Henderson, KY Daughter-In-Law: Susie Watkins of Henderson, KY Sister: Katherine Skaggs of Henderson, KY Sisters-In-Laws: Juanita, Delores and Geraldine Watkins Grandchildren: Matthew Watkins, Christian Watkins and wife Heather of Henderson, KY, Harlan Watkins, Jr., Sean Watkins, Christy Schadd and husband Heath of California 3 Step- Granchildren: Zachary Coleman, Taylor Eshbaugh and wife Jade, Lauren Eshbaugh 5 Great Grandchildren: Kimberly Libby and husband Ric, Sarah Watkins, Jenny Schadd, Channey Schadd, KaLynn Schadd and Lilly Schadd 1 Step-Great Grandchild: Calla Sue Eshbaugh 1 Great Great Grandson: Tobyn Libby Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Sanford’s Life Celebration from 4:00- 7:00 PM Thursday, and again on Friday starting at 12:00 PM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Barry Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson.
