Mary Alice Blythe

Mary Alice Blythe, age 80, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 2:55 PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at her home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. After graduating high school and a year at Western Kentucky, Mary Alice went to work for Delta Airlines and Southern Airlines making reservations; often filling in as a stewardess. She met the love of her life, Bob Blythe, on a blind date and they were married in 1959. They moved their family back to Henderson and she began working at Gibbs as a clerk typist in the bookkeeping department. She then worked at Osborne Brush Manufacturing from where she retired in 1980. Throughout her various employments, she always found time to play the piano and the organ for Benton-Glunt and Tapp Funeral Homes. Mary Alice loved music. In addition to playing for funerals she would often sing and play at weddings as well. She was a member of First Christian Church. In her retirement she enjoyed babysitting all the children in her family and traveling with Bob to “Chosin Few” Korean War reunions around the country. She was very patriotic and was extremely proud of her husband’s service to our country. Mary Alice was an outstanding mother; a rock they could always depend on. She was deeply loved by her family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ida Mae Ellis and her siblings. Survivors include: Husband of 57 years: Bob Blythe Henderson, KY 1 Son: Robert “Bob” E. Blythe and his wife Betty Nashville, TN 2 Daughters: Beth Gish and her husband Ed Corydon, KY Bonnie Buchanan and her husband Dennis Henderson, KY 12 Grandchildren 34 Great Grandchildren 6 Great Great Grandchildren Relatives and friends are invited to Mary Alice’s Life Celebration from 4:00- 8:00 PM Friday and again on Saturday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the funeral home with Dr. Chuck Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Christian Church in Henderson.
