Martha Wilson

Martha Hager Thompson Wilson, age 75, went to her eternal home at 4:15am, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Henderson Nursing and Rehab under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice. Martha was born March 9, 1938 to Robert W. and Lucy (McHargue) Hager, who preceded her in death. Martha graduated from Holy Name High School in 1956. She enjoyed a fulfilling 18-year career at Community Methodist Hospital as Patient Accounts Manager. She retired in 1997. She also worked in real estate for a number of years and as a bookkeeper for local farmers through the UK Extension Service. Martha obtained her Associates Degree in Business from Henderson Community College in 1980. Martha was a devout Catholic, and a life-long active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a Kentucky Colonel, and she was active in politics for many years, proudly campaigning for the Republican Party. Martha was a natural born entertainer, and she enjoyed performing in several variety shows at Methodist Hospital. She loved to laugh, entertain, travel, and play cards. She was generous to a fault, and was an extremely loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil L. Thompson, her son Virgil (Lenny) Thompson, Jr, her husband of 25 years, Robert Wilson of Wilson Realty & Appraisal, and her sister Bettye Hager Hanley of Florida. Her survivors include her daughters, Tina Thompson Farley, and Teri Lee Thompson, both of Henderson, Toni Thompson Adams and her husband Bryan of Overland Park Kansas, a son, John D. Kolb and his wife Lisa of Louisville, her siblings David S. Hager and his wife Laura of Henderson, Mary Ann Blanford and husband Marvin of Weston, Florida, and Karen Sue Hager of Arizona. Her grandchildren include Jeremy S. Hunt of Louisville, Christy (Embry) Osborn and her husband David of Henderson, Jarrod Embry and his wife Kristen of Henderson, K. Robert Gibbs and his wife Jillian of Knox Indiana, Wesley and Zachary Adams of Overland Park Kansas, and Katie, Ryan and Nathan Kolb, from Louisville. Martha is also survived by four great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Martha’s Life Celebration from 4:00-8:00 PM Monday, January 13, and again on Tuesday starting at 10:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson, KY. A prayer service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
