Margaret Sharon Whitmore Clayton

Margaret Sharon Whitmore Clayton, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was born in Henderson, KY on November 15, 1950, to Fred “Happy” and Elvera Whitmore. Margaret loved the Lord and was an active member of Cairo United Methodist Church, having attended the church all her life and joining the church June 30, 1957. Family, including extended family and friends were always important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them. Margaret enjoyed houseboating at Rough River Lake for 29 years, as well as reading, working out at the YMCA, walking, baking brownies for family birthdays and special chocolate fudge at Christmas. She was a Kentucky Wildcat and New York Yankees fan. Margaret was employed at Eaton (Dana) Corporation for 37 years. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers Michael E. Whitmore and infant Starling Brook Whitmore. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Deurona “D.C.” Clayton of Henderson, KY; daughter Karen Clayton Beasley and her husband Rodney of Henderson, KY; brothers: Fred C. Whitmore and his wife Mildred Joyce of Louisville, KY, Roger E. Whitmore and his wife Beverly of Henderson, KY, and Dale O. Whitmore and his wife Brenda of Leitchfield, KY; sister Anna Grace Lovell and her husband Dan of Henderson, KY; sister-in-law Charlene Whitmore of Lexington, KY; 3 grandchildren: Kieran, Madeline, and Joby Beasley; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Margaret’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the funeral home with Dr. Daniel S. Lovell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Pallbearers will be David Whitmore, Brad Whitmore, Wes Whitmore, Gene Abel, Pete Bard, and Bobby Stevenson.
