Jimie Denton Staples

Jimie Denton Staples, age 83, of Henderson, KY, passed away, Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital Downtown. Jimie graduated from Hebbardsville High School in 1949. He started on the varsity basketball team when he was just a freshman. Three years after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served our country for 23 years. He retired in 1975 as a Chief Master Sergeant. Jimie continued in Civil Service for 19 years as the Assistant Director of Commissary Region in South Western United States. Jimie traveled very much both for work and for pleasure. Jimie was a huge UK fan and got to go to the SEC Tournament and the 2012 Final Four game. He loved playing golf. He loved his family and friends and never met a stranger. He enjoyed an active membership at Spottsville Baptist church where he was the Sunday school director. Jimie was preceded in death by his parents Mallie and Rosalie Staples, 2 Sisters: Irene Peckenpaugh and Peggy Spencer; 3 Brothers: Arnold Staples, Ernest Staples and Jerry Staples. Survivors include: Wife of 16 years: Elaine Bassett Staples Henderson, KY 2 Daughters: Angela Moffett and husband Don Henderson, KY Rhonda Queener and husband Mark Mascoutah, IL 2 Step Daughters: Connie Dizinno Henderson, KY Jan Williams and husband Cliff Henderson, KY 1 Son: Rodney Staples and wife Jennifer Chandler, AZ 2 Brothers: Charles Staples and wife Glori a Aiken, SC Hugh Staples and wife Jeannie Henderson, KY 6 Grandchildren: Scott Queener, Shaun Moffett, Brian Queener, Erin Mills, Sarah Glines and Nicole Staples 3 Step Grandchildren: Morgan Eyre, Madison Dizinno and Bryce Williams 7 Great Grandchildren Relatives and friends are invited to Jimie’s Life Celebration from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday and again on Saturday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the funeral home with Brother Jeffrey Shouse and Brother Hal Branson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Spottsville Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Cemetery fund.
