James Nunley

James N. "Jim" Nunley James N. "Jim" Nunley, 88, Henderson, went home to his Heavenly Father on Friday morning, Oct. 28, 2011, after battling a long illness. He passed peacefully in his sleep in his own bed, as he had always wanted. With open arms, our dad and husband was welcomed into Heaven by his own father and mother, Letcher and Nora Keach Nunley; his brothers, W.C. "Willie" Nunley and Henry Collins "Connie" Nunley, who he always referred to as his best friends; his son, William "Perry" Risley; and his grandson, Jeremy Howard. He was born July 5, 1923. Our dad and husband was a First Sergeant in the United States Army serving his country proudly in three theatres of the war during World War II: The European, American and Asiatic-Pacific. While also engaging in one of the bloodiest conflicts on the Rhine River, he was a fearless and patriotic member of the Fighting 97th Division, 303rd Infantry Regimen, Company D. After the war, he went on to become a master carpenter with the Local 549 Carpenter's Union. Finally, but certainly not least, he found his Lord and Savior in the Baptist faith while all the time enjoying a fellowship spanning the years at the Robards Baptist to First Baptist Sebree and finally considering himself blessed as a member of the First Baptist Church of Henderson. While our dad and husband had many experiences throughout his 88 years of life, we rest assured that it was defined by his service to his country during World War II, his children, his dearly loved grandchildren and his work experience. As part of America's Greatest Generation, out dad and husband will be sorely missed but now finally rest. Good Night -- Sweet Prince. Jim is survived by his dedicated wife of 41 years, Jana Zieman Nunley; two sons, E. Scott Nunley and his wife, Sue, and Jeffery D. Risley and his wife, Candy, all of Henderson; three daughters, N. Janay Nunley Sutton and her husband, Greg, of Vine Grove, Ky., Sherian K. Howard of Lexington and Janie Hays of Henderson; and six grandchildren, Allie Janay and Addison Faith Sutton, both of Vine Grove, and Dustin R. Risley of Princeton, Ky., and B. Heath Hays, Mary Howard Leppo and Nora E. Howard, all of Lexington. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Brother Bill Patterson will officiate. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery, with full military rites performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.Friends may call from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Fighting 97th Division, 303rd Infantry Regimen, Company D World War II Veteran's Group in the form of cash or checks made payable to Company D. Pallbearers are the following; Bill Jenkins, Edward Franklin Sandefur, Bill Mauzey, Yeaman Lee Griffin, Greg Sutton and Gene Sutton
