James A. "Jimmy" Newman

James A. “Jimmy” Newman, age 94, of Henderson, KY, passed away Thursday October 8, 2015. Jimmy was born in Hebbardsville, KY, the oldest of 10 children of Frank and Billie Newman. He was a graduate of Hebbardsville High School and attended Murray State Teachers College. He served in the Navy during WWII. In addition to working at Taylor Brothers for 10 years, he also served 8 terms as Property Valuation Administrator for Henderson County and City. Jimmy was active in several civic organization such as; Elks, American Legion, Masons,Travelers Protective Association and Rotary. While a member of TPA he served as a national officer and as secretary to the Henderson chapter. Jimmy was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was an avid, lifelong fan of UK Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was well known as a local hobby gardener and nurtured an apple and peach orchard on Garden Lane where he loved to spend the majority of his retirement days. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and mother, wife of 69 years, Rowena Cheatham Newman, brother, Claude Newman and sister, Martha Lou James. Survivors include: 2 Sons: John F. Newman James M. “Jim” Newman and wife Irmgard 4 Sisters: Dorothy Jenkins Carolyn Smith and husband Dick JoAnn Boswell Shirley Rideout 3 Brothers: Buddy Newman and wife Kathy Ronald Newman and wife Verna Wyatt Newman and wife Alice 5 Grandchildren: Aimee Newman, James Newman and wife Amy, Eva Brown and husband Jason, Brandon Newman and Chase Newman. 3 Great Grandchildren: Sara, Logan and Amelia Brown Caregivers: Theresa Spainhoward, Kathy Butler, Linda Hensley Several Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Jimmy’s Life Celebration from 3:00- 8:00 PM Sunday and again on Monday starting at 9:00 AM at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the funeral home with the Reverend Nathan Whisnant officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairmont Mausoleum in Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
