James "Jerry" Johnson

James “Jerry” Johnson, age 84, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, formerly of Henderson, KY, went to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry worked for many years at Accuride as a machine set up technician before transitioning into work he felt was truly rewarding at the Henderson County Detention Center. On one occasion, Jerry chased down and subdued a fugitive. He was a hardworking man and put 120% into everything that he did. Jerry was handy at everything, it seemed. He was a huge Nascar fan, enjoyed deer hunting, and was a talented woodworker and artist. Family was what Jerry valued more than anything. Taking care of them and spending time together was everything to him. Whether he was fixing their cars, or driving hours just to dog sit, he was always there for them. Jerry loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they adored him right back. He was lucky to share the past 63 years with the love of his life, Donna. She nicknamed him early on “Johnson Boy” and he called her “Johnson Girl” right back. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents J.D. and Sue Johnson and brother Charles E. “Eddie” Johnson. Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years Donna Johnson; daughter Rhonda Kuehne (Matt) of Mt. Carmel, IL; son Rodney Johnson (Tracy) of Henderson, KY; sister Vicki Chinn (Ronnie) of Henderson, KY; grandchildren: Troy Kuehne (Hailey) of Mt. Carmel, IL, Seth Kuehne (Shawna) of Mt. Carmel, IL, Jacob Johnson of Lexington, KY, and Jordyn Johnson (Spencer Bartow) of Louisville, KY; great-grandchildren: Bentley, Adeline, and Everly Kuehne; and nieces and nephews. Jerry’s services will be private at the family’s request. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, Kentucky.
