George R Nasbitt

George Riley Nasbitt, age 91, of Henderson, KY most recently of Hanson, KY, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY. In addition to his parents, Chris and Lila Hooper Nasbitt, George was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Holland Nasbitt, and his son, Glen Riley Nasbitt. George was born May 4, 1925 in Geneva, KY, and grew up in Corydon, KY. He joined the Navy and earned five battle stars during his service aboard the USS Storm King, AP171 during World War II. After the war, George joined his brother, James Nasbitt, in Nasbitt Brothers, a river towing and excavating company. He later started G.R. Nasbitt Excavating, which he operated for 30 years. He was a resident of the Western Kentucky Veterans Center for over two years. George was a kind and devoted family man who enjoyed family vacations at Kentucky Lake with his children and grandchildren, where he and Margaret taught many how to water ski. Later, he was fond of visiting theme parks, especially Opryland, with his grandchildren. He enjoyed making and sharing family movies, which were a central part of any family gathering, as well as attending USS Storm King Reunions. He was a member of the Corydon Masonic Lodge #799. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Western Kentucky Veterans Center for their compassionate and loving care during his residency. Survivors include: 3 daughters and Sons-In-Law: Norma and James Spivey Cedar Park, TX Nancy and Seton Norris III Henderson, KY Marie and Donnie Melton Corydon, KY 7 Grandchildren: Scott Spivey, Shena Spivey, Katy Ray, Thomas Legg, Alyssa Nasbitt, Donnie Melton II, and Maggie Melton Several Great Grandchildren Wife of fourteen years Ann Reynolds Relatives and friends are invited to George’s Life Celebration from 4:00-8:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, KY with Reverend Keith Griffin officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
