Ella M Pruitt

Ella M. Pruitt, age 96, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 9:26 p.m. on July 24, 2023, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Ella was the eldest of eight children born to James and Lilas Crowder. She was an avid bowler for more than fifty years up to the young age of 92. Ella may have been late, but never missed a day of her 34 years at the former Gamco factory. She was not a lady, but she was a woman. She refused to marry the love of her life before he left for war because she didn’t want to risk being a widow. She was determined to wait for him to return. Ella was eternally present at all of her children’s events, games, and awards ceremonies. She never missed those important moments. In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband James E. Pruitt and her siblings: Howard Crowder, Hayward Crowder, Tony Crowder, and Thelon Kirk, and her great-grandson Eli Lowrey. Ella is survived by her daughters Sheila White and husband Danny of Henderson, KY and Barbara “Bobbie” Pruitt of Henderson, KY; son Dr. Charles Pruitt and wife Megan of Hilton Head, SC; sister Beverly Cooper of Louisville, KY; brothers Leon Crowder and wife Glenda of Kilgore, TX and Leonard Crowder of Ocala, FL; grandchildren: Ben Pruitt and wife Stephanie, Charles Pruitt and wife Maggie, Jack Pruitt and wife Meghan, Lizzie Lowrey and husband Jake, Jeff Wallace and wife Jennifer, Jimmy Wallace, Joe Wallace and wife Phyllis, and Ronnie Pruitt and wife Christina; 26 great- grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Ella’s Life Celebration from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Friday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the funeral home with Reverend Eric Fannin officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
