Earl W. Bridges Jr.

Earl W. Bridges, Jr., age 85, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 1:22 PM, Thursday, February 6, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Lucy Smith King Care Center, Henderson, KY. Earl was born July 6, 1928 in Gracey, KY to Earl W. and Madge Bridges, Sr. He had nine siblings, and his family farmed, while his mother was a homemaker. The family moved to Henderson in 1939, where he graduated from Barrett Manuel High School. Earl was in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War, where he served in Korea and attained the rank of Sgt. First Class. He met and married the love of his life, Frances in 1958. Earl was a quiet man, and very hard working. He farmed around 1,000 acres a year. After retiring he and Frances enjoyed going to auctions and taking day trips. They especially enjoyed their weekly lunch at Moonlight BBQ in Owensboro and he loved old counrty music. Earl was preceded in death by his wife Frances Bridges, parents, and brother James Bridges. Survivors include: 3 Sons: Ted Fisher of Henderson, KY, David Bridges and wife Judy of Plainfield, IL, and Donald Bridges and wife Tammy of Henderson, KY; 2 Daughters: Sherry Hagan and husband Sam of Corydon, KY and Lisa O’Nan and husband Danny of Henderson, KY; 3 Brothers: Bill Bridges and wife Geralene of Henderson, KY, Jerry Bridges and wife Sally of Vienna, VA, Ralph Bridges and wife Faye of Henderson, KY; 4 Sisters: Marie Royster of Sebree, KY, Dorothy Powell of Little Dixie, KY, Mary Cheaney and husband Lewis of Hebbardsville, KY, and Carol Qualls and husband Dan of Henderson, KY; 2 Sisters-in-law: Emily Bridges of Henderson, KY and Judy Fisher of Evansville, IN; 1 Brother-in-law: John Fisher of Evansville, IN; 10 Grandchildren: Brad Fisher, Joshua O’Nan, Melissa Lueker, Zachary O’Nan, Eric Hagan, Elizabeth Bridges, Katherine Bridges, Jessica Bridges, Gabrielle Bridges, and Christopher Bridges; 3 Great Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Earl’s Life Celebration from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday and again on Monday starting at 9:00 AM until service time at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, Ky. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the funeral home with Heath Farmer officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairmont Mausoleum in Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: St. Anthony’s Hospice Pallbearers will be: Bill Bridges, Jerry Bridges, Ralph Bridges, Brad Fisher, Zach O’Nan, and Eric Hagan.
