Donald Hazelwood

Donald Lee Hazelwood, age 78, of Henderson, Kentucky passed away at 1:05 P.M. Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center, Hanson, Kentucky. Mr. Hazelwood was a member of DuPey Baptist Church & Community Baptist Church. He was a local businessman & owner of Monica's Motel. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a past President & member of the Historical Society, an author and historian and one of the few people responsible for saving the Henderson Depot. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a 32nd Shriner, past President of the Kentucky Nut Club, Boy Scout leader, and member of the Tourism Commission and a member of the Jerusalem Lodge. He was preceded in death by his father Aubrey Hazelwood and his mother Margaret Perry. Survivors include: Wife: Monica Hazelwood Henderson, KY 2 Sons: Aubrey "Buby" Hazelwood and his wife Julie Henderson, KY Byron Hazelwood and his wife Debbie Henderson, KY 1 Daughter: Cindy Griffin and her husband Eddie Henderson, KY 2 Sisters: Dorothy Spaulding and her husband Ron Henderson, KY Louise Greenside and her husband Cliff Aiken, S.C. 6 Grandchildren: Cliff Griffin Amber Wood and her husband Andrew Joshua Hazelwood and his wife Kassie Lauren Hazelwood Kayla Hazelwood all of Henderson, KY Craig Griffin Louisville, KY 1 Great Granddaughter: Summer Hazelwood Nieces & Nephews Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday August 20, 2006 at DuPey Baptist Church in Bluff City, Kentucky. Dr. John Dunnaway will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY with full Military Rites by the American Legion Worsham Post #40. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, Kentucky. Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday and 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Sunday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson KY and 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Sunday at DuPey Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Cliff Griffin, Craig Griffin, Josh Hazelwood, Lauren Hazelwood, Kayla Hazelwood and Ralph Folden. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to DuPey Baptist Church or Community Baptist Church.
