Mr. Claudis Lee "Lucky" Kirtley

Claudis Lee “Lucky” Kirtley , age 75, of Robards, KY, passed away, Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home, under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Claudis was born on December 5, 1937, at home on the Green River, to Oscar and Marjorie Bennett Kirtley. His parents owned and operated two ferry boats, Ranger’s Landing and Point Pleasant. At age 16, he left school and started working with the family business. Later, he worked for Corbell Construction & Beason Oil Company, in the oil fields. He also was an equipment operator for Phillips Construction. Claudis was a very hard worker. He continued working right up until two months ago. Claudis even did the grading for the new downtown Henderson River Walk. Claudis was a very active man who loved being outdoors. His hobbies included fishing, mushroom hunting, scooter riding, gardening, golfing, and woodworking. He liked to make people laugh. Claudis was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed Gospel music and loved spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys was being a Grandpa. He was preceded by his parents, and four brothers; Ernest, Douglas, David Bruce, & Kenneth Kirtley. Survivors include: His loving wife of 54 years: Wanda Kirtley of Robards, KY; 4 Daughters: Vickie L. Rives and husband Rick of Texas, Debra L. Morris and husband David of Sebree, KY, Robin Cook and husband Mike of Robards, KY, and Kerry Guerin and husband Jason of Evansville, IN; 2 Sisters: Barbara Ann Kirtley Berry and Linda Sue Kirtley Brooks both of Henderson, KY; 2 Brothers: Walter Gene Kirtley of Mclean County and Phillip Kirtley of Island, KY; 10 Grandchildren: Rickey Rives, Jr., Joseph Thurmond, Shannon Lewis, Melissa Woods, Shelley Rives, Becky Morris, Heather Cook, Shawna Goins, Sarah Cook, & Lilly Guerin.; 5 Great Grandchildren: Mason Roland, Daylan Lewis, Isaac Thurmond, Isabelle Thurmond, & Dylan Rives.; & Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Claudis’s Life Celebration from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Benton- Glunt Funeral Home with Reverend David Mabrey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: American Cancer Society or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
