Bettyjean "BJ" Patterson

Bettyjean “BJ” Patterson, age 63, of Henderson, KY, passed away peacefully to be with our Lord at 6:52 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents George Thomas “Col.” Patterson, Sr. and Elsie Juanita Hendricks Patterson, sisters, Linda Patterson Applegate, Donna Kay Patterson, and Sondra Gayle Patterson, and one granddaughter Everleigh Tepool. BJ was extremely beautiful, intelligent, and sang like an angel. She loved God above all else and grew up singing and playing piano in church. She also performed locally in many venues and was even on the radio several times. Another thing she was accomplished at was landscaping, and she worked on the crew for the set of the movie, “A League of Their Own.” BJ was also very talented at taking care of loved ones when they were ill and cooking huge, delicious meals for her family. Everybody wanted her chicken and dumplings recipe! Her other hobbies included beating everyone at Monopoly, fishing, gardening, and most importantly to her- spending time with the grandkids! BJ is survived by her daughters Sarah Matthews Rigdon (Eugene) and Sonya Matthews Tepool (Alan) both of Evansville, IN; sons Josh Matthews and Aaron Matthews both of Henderson, KY; sister Ginger Bard (Allen) of Henderson, KY; brothers: George Thomas Patterson, Jr. (Pat) of Ashland, TN, Harvey Patterson and Kenneth Patterson both of Henderson, KY; and 10 grandchildren, whom she considered her most precious jewels: Drew and his wife Emilee, Madison, Hayden, Olivia, Logan, Audrey, Noah, Marissa, Allison, and Little Jack. Relatives and friends are invited to BJ’s Life Celebration from 1:00 p.m. until the service time on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Phillip Culberston officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
