William "Moon" Mullins

On Tuesday Henderson lost a legend, William “Moon” Mullins, age 73, passed away at 6:10 AM March 21, 2017. Born to Lola and Everett Lee Mullins on the hill of 1553 S. Main in 1943, Moon quickly developed into a strong willed rebellious youth that stayed true to his own spirit to the very end. Moon started employment at Whirlpool in 1965, although he stayed with Whirlpool for 40 years, his real occupation was having fun, driving fast and being cool. Also in 1965 Moon took a child bride, Sharon Miller, through thick and thin, thin or flush, they never left each other’s side. By 1973 after several failed attempts Sharon and Moon had what eventually turned out to be a pretty cool son, Derek. Whether you knew Moon all your life or for five minutes he left an impression you probably wouldn’t or couldn’t shake for some time, if ever. Growing up without a dad is perhaps why Moon was such an influence and presence in the lives of all the kids in the neighborhood, taking his son and all his friends to car events, trips or to do physical labor with the payment of a Big Mac waiting in the wings. It never mattered where Moon was, he was quick to strike up a conversation with whoever happened to be near, never meeting a stranger. He was a lifelong KY Basketball fan and a KY Colonel. Moon lived with a lust for life that many speak of, but a very small percentage achieve. In addition to his parents, Moon was preceded in death by 2 brothers, James “Moon” Mullins and Raymond Mullins, and an infant son, Jackie Mullins. Survivors include: Wife of 52 years: Sharon Miller Mullins of Henderson, KY Son: Derek Mullins of Evansville, IN Sister: Irene Brock of Henderson, KY Brother: Morris Mullins of Henderson County, KY Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Moon’s Life Celebration from 4:00- 8:00 PM Thursday and again on Friday starting at 12:00 PM until the service time at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
