Vernon Earl "Tud" Campbell

Vernon Earl "Tud" Campbell, age 73, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 6:35 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at his home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Vernon was born in Blair, NE in 1941 to Leslie and Marie Campbell. His father worked for Union Pacific and the family later owned and operated a Little Duffer Burger & Shakes. Vernon attended school in Blair, where he played football and was homecoming king and senior class president. He graduated from Dana Lutheran University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He later got his master’s degree in nuclear engineering. Vernon joined the Army in 1961. He served in Germany with a unit, the 507th ASA, that was the precursor to what became the NSA. Vernon spoke fluent German. Vernon met the love of his life, Jerri at Alcoa. He was working for the company building the plant and she worked in accounts payable so he had to go to her office to get his check. They married in 1973 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He loved music from classical to big band to classic country. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother: Charles “Buzz” Campbell and a sister: Helen Wetzel. Survivors include: Wife of 41 years: Jerri Hillenbrand Campbell of Henderson, KY 2 Sons: J. David Campbell and wife Janet of Punta Gorda, FL Brandon Campbell and wife Jamie of Richmond, TX 1 Daughter: Cristin Moore of Henderson, KY 3 Grandchildren: Zachary, Michelle, Allie Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Vernon Campbell’s Life Celebration from 3:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2015 and again on Wednesday, January 14, starting at noon at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home with Reverend Hollis Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
