Shelia Carlene Self

Shelia Carlene Crayne Self, age 61 of Henderson, KY passed away at 6:43 AM, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. Shelia married Billy Self in 1976 at Clark Street General Baptist Church. They met when he would visit her home to deliver Bible school literature. She was a member of Henderson General Baptist Church and past member of Clark Street General Baptist Church and Countryview General Baptist Church. She was a pianist and played in church from the age of 11. She held the office of Musician at Henderson Assembly #7, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls from 1967-1971. Shelia was one of the first women elected to the Home Missions Board in the General Baptist General Assembly. She taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was a youth leader. Shelia held church offices in the Freedom Association for 50 years. She graduated from City High School in 1971, then attended Henderson Community College majoring in business management. She loved history and had visited several battle fields around the area to teach her children about American history. Shelia had been the head cashier at Clarkes, bookkeeper at Methodist Hospital and secretary at KCA. She always volunteered at her children’s schools helping grade papers and with the Choir and Band Boosters at the high school. Most people knew her and her husband as the “Band Parents”. Shelia was a homemaker for 38 years, a loving wife and mother that loved spending every waking minute with her family. Shelia was preceded in death by her parents: Henry “Tood” Carlton Crayne and Eva Bradley Crayne. Survivors include: Husband of 38 years: Billy Gene Self Henderson, KY 2 Daughters: Tamara Marie Self Henderson, KY Tiffany Lynn Self Henderson, KY 1 Son: Jonathan Wayne Self Henderson, KY 1 Brother-in-Law: Ted Self and wife Belinda Corydon, KY 2 Aunts: Sara Eison and husband Walter Madisonville, KY Pat Crayne Fredonia, KY 1 Uncle: Ruban “R.L.” Powell Boonville, IN 2 Nieces: Stephanie Self Corydon, KY Laura Ivy and husband David Morganfield, KY 1 Nephew: David Self Corydon, KY Many cousins Relatives and friends are invited to Sheila’s Life Celebration from 3:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, November 16 and again on Monday, November 17 starting 10:00 AM at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Charles Linhart and Reverend Chad Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in Corydon Cemetery, Corydon, KY.
