Obbie Todd

Obbie Todd, age 92, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 12:22AM, Sunday, October 22, 2017, under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center. Obbie was preceded in death by his parents John Melvin & Bulin Todd, and two brothers Carlton Todd and John Todd. Obbie was a marine who served his country during World War II. He was a 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Airwing, and was a member of Fighter Squadron VMF 214. He fought in the battle of Peleliu in the South Pacific. As a veteran, he proudly took part in the Honors Flight to Washington D.C. with his son, Steve, by his side. Obbie attended Mississippi Southern Junior College where he played collegiate football. He graduated from Murray State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He also earned a Master’s Rank 1 Degree at Western Kentucky University. Obbie will be well remembered for his contribution to Henderson County High School. In the 50’s, HCHS was located where North Middle School is today. He played such a vital role in the foundation of the school’s football program that he helped in choosing the school mascot and the colors of maroon and white, which still proudly represent HCHS. He was instrumental in building the football field and was the first football coach from 1955-1961. When he wasn’t on the football field, you could find him in the classroom teaching Industrial Arts. He was also the first principal of Cairo Elementary School and was Assistant Superintendent in the Henderson County School System. Obbie attended Bennett Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and was a fan of the University of Louisville. Survivors include: Wife of 64 years, Dolores Adkins Todd, of Henderson, KY 1 Daughter: Linda Todd Ferguson and her husband Jim, of Henderson, KY 3 Sons: Timothy Todd and his wife Carrie, of Spring TX Steve Todd and his wife Jennifer, of Pensacola, FL Obbie Dale Todd and his wife Trisha, of Owensboro, KY 10 Grandchildren: Josh Todd, Jacob Todd, Obbie Tyler Todd, Grant Todd, Sarah Todd Simmons, Maggie Ferguson Henderson, Joseph Todd, Hannah Ferguson, Max Ferguson and Jack Ferguson. 14 Great Grandchildren Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Obbie’s Life Celebration from 3:00-8:00PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 and again on Thursday starting at 8:30AM at Tapp Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00AM, Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the funeral home with Obbie’s two grandson’s officiating, Rev. Obbie Tyler Todd and Rev Jacob Todd, along with Pastor Wayne Burt. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40. Pallbearers will be all of the grandsons.
