John Webster

John R. Webster John R. Webster beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle died at age 84 on September 24, 2010 in Salinas, CA. He is survived by his wife Beverly, his children Lisa, Gina and Derek, his son-in-law Mark and his grandchildren Tasia and Dallan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mrs. Mae Webster of Princeton, IN, nephews Henry Arnold Webster III and John Randall Webster, his sister-in-law Nancy Bentley and her husband Cassius Bentley Jr. and brother-in-law Joe Faulkner and his wife Charlotte Faulkner, his cousin Ron Chapman, nieces Kim Parks, Nina Dossett, Jeanette Majors, and nephews Scott Bentley, Mike Faulkner and Tim Faulkner. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Arnold Webster Sr. and Wanda Webster as well as his brother Henry Arnold Webster Jr. Johnny was born at home on a snowy Christmas Day morning in 1925. He grew up in Audubon and regaled his family with stories of his youth and fond memories. He attended Audubon School and graduated from Barrett Manual Training High School. His lifelong love of learning lead him to a career in education, first as a teacher and ultimately as an elementary school administrator. Johnny was a Veteran who served his country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1946, from the USN Personnel Separation Center in Boston, Mass. Upon return from war, Johnny worked for Spencer Chemicals, as a radio broadcaster for the station WSON and also modeled for a brief time. Upon graduation from Indiana University, he was principal of Seventh Street School for five years before moving to California with his wife Beverly and daughter Lisa in 1957.Two more children followed who are native Californians; Gina in 1959 and Derek in 1962. Johnny was a well respected school administrator in the Salinas City School District for over twenty years and was truly loved by all his students. Johnny was a life long member of Free and Accepted Masons (Blue Lodge in Kentucky and Masonic Lodge #204 in California), the Shriners, the Scottish Rite and many professional organizations. Johnny will be laid to rest in Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson, KY near his parents and his brother on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1:00 PM. All family and friends are invited to attend. His graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Gary Allen Chapman of the Methodist Church. Rev. Chapman is Johnny's cousin. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Worsham Post #40 Benton-Glunt Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers requests that donations be made to Bennett Memorial Methodist Church, Shriners Children's Hospital, the Masonic Home for the Aged or the donor's favorite charity.
