Charles William "C.W." Thurby

Charles William “C.W.” Thurby, age 88, of Henderson, KY passed away at 11:00 p.m., Thursday July 8, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown, Evansville, IN surrounded in love with his family by his side. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Nellie Thurby; sisters: Evelyn Murphy, Joyce Pearcy, Stella Gish, Frances Miller, Virginia Cooper, Ruby Nunn, and Grace Todd; brothers: John Thurby, Frank Thurby, Houston Thurby, and James Thurby; and grandson Chris Browder. Charles proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bellfield Baptist Church. Charles retired from Alcoa in 1993 as a machine operator. He was a member of Traveler’s Protection Association, a Kentucky Colonel, and an avid UK fan. Charles was meticulous about keeping things clean, especially his car and lawn…well really…everything! Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley Sue Thurby; daughter Karen Sue Browder and her husband Joe of Henderson, KY; son William Kevin Thurby and his wife Michelle of Venice, FL; sister Mary Jones of Kuttawa, KY; grandchildren: Brynn Hickman (Kelly), Kelsie Chandler (Cody), Samantha Biggerstaff (Reed), Isaac Biggerstaff, Henry Thurby, and Noah Biggerstaff; great-grandchildren: Ara Browder, Forrest Davis, Kerstin Chandler, Buck Chandler, and Ezra Chandler; nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Charles’ Life Celebration from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home and again from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at Bellfield Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the church with Brother Dylan Zahn officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
